Hiring a Personal Trainer as your fitness coach is more than hiring someone to count reps and recommend exercises. It’s hiring someone whose values and goals align with yours. Those values are going to influence how they partner with you and the focus they put into your success. Here are two of my core values and how these commitments drive my coaching focus on you.
I believe, that with the right strategy and support, you can maintain and grow what you are capable of, so that you can achieve the life most rewarding to you.
Be of Service
My role as your fitness coach is to put you in the best position to be successful and to meet your goals. This is my first focus and commitment to all of my clients. This is a critical core of who I am. As a gamer and an athlete, I have always been at my best when partnering with and in service to others, whether in support of teams or in one on one scenarios. As a leader in various corporate organizations, I always focused on how I could serve my team and other teams, even from a position of leadership. The lessons of leadership and service learned over the many years are the lessons that I bring to our partnership. Having a focus on you and not a particular system or program, allows for flexibility and to adapt to what your needs are.
Be A Resource
Coaching is not about having all of the answers, it’s about asking questions to find the appropriate answers. I value continually learning, seeking out new information and new ideas. This is a core part of who I am and the path my life has led me on. Continually learning new approaches gives me more tools and options to grow what I’m capable of, which I can then use to find what works best for you. While the basic principle of “progressive overload” is the core to all exercise and creating positive changes in the body, our approach to progressive overload can and will vary as we need it to. As your coach and partner, I’ll continually be looking at options that are going to challenge you in a positive and sustainable way.
My choice to be a Personal Trainer
I decided to pursue being a personal trainer and fitness coach as it’s the intersection of both my personal and professional paths.
Personally, I had a winding path in fitness and have had the same success and setbacks as most people. I started strong through my youth, achieving success as a state weightlifting champ in high school and maintained a strong exercise habit into my college years. Like many people, after college, other things were prioritized over exercise and impacted me as a result. I’ve gotten back into shape, only to fall out of the habit when my career took center stage at the time, to then work back to being in shape again.
Professionally, I’ve made a living performing music, managing a payroll tax team, working in retail, bookkeeping and managing a temp staffing office. Each of these roles introduced me to new concepts, ideas and helped to develop my coaching skills and interest in having a positive impact outside of myself.
Seeing my own struggles, what I’ve learned and am still learning, I see the unique opportunity I have to support others create healthier habits, lifestyles and results for themselves and those around them.
